Lawrence Whitehurst, M.C., M.D., F.A.A.F.P

Born in Norfolk, Virginia, Dr. Whitehurst has 35 years of practice experience, most of which he gained as a highly decorated military physician who served in both the US Army and US Air Force over a distinguished 25 year career. He served tours of duty in both the active Army and the Reserve Components until transferring to the US Air Force in 1990. He was a commander four times and a Chief of the Medical Staff twice, including two overseas tours in Germany. His last command tour lasted four years during which he commanded all the Air Force Medical forces in Central Germany. While in this position, he provided direct care for two former Presidents of the United States, Secretary of State, First Ladies, and the Secretary of Defense during their visits.  He retired from the Air Force in 2000 and spent the next four years in Alaska, providing care for Native Alaskans for two years as part of the Yukon-Kuskokwim Native Health Corporation and in private practice in Fairbanks. Following these positions, he returned to his native Virginia, settled in Culpeper, and opened CMA-Family Physicians in October 2006. Dr. Whitehurst does full spectrum family medicine, and cares for all ages with special interest in infectious diseases, diabetes and trauma care.
